Is Asket sustainable?

Asket is rated an eco nerd brand since it’s a slow fashion retailer that launched a permanent zero-compromise collection of essential pieces. Asket encourages its customers to consume less and avoid trends that change overnight. All clothes are made of the finest and most sustainable fabrics, they are certified and most importantly 93% of its permanent collection is fully traceable. This brand is exclusively partnering with ethical manufacturers. For us, Asket shows how eco-conscious every fashion brand can be.

Environmental footprint of Asket

Asket respects the environment by making clothes out of the finest natural fabrics, including organic cotton, recycled wool, traceable merino wool and recycled cashmere. The materials are classified from A to E (with A being the most preferred and E the least preferred) considering the environmental impact during the production process. The wool is either traceable RWS certified (Responsible Wool Standard) or recycled. Around 80% of Asket garments are not blended fabrics but consist of a singular kind of textile. The majority of its cotton clothes are organic certified. 
In 2019-2020, Asket conducted lifecycle impact research in collaboration with The Research Institute of Sweden (RiSE). The study calculated the climate impact and water and energy usage that is associated with a garment’s entire production from farming to the customer’s use phase (washing, drying, ironing and detergents) and then until the end of its life (recycling or landfill). The scores of Askets garments and products were published on the brand’s website.

Animal welfare at Asket

We welcome all green practices that Asket has implemented so far, however, we couldn’t find sufficient information regarding the animal welfare policy. The wool is RWS certified (Responsible Wool Standard) though and we believe that’s a great start to developing more cruelty-free collections in the future. Asket does have products that are suitable for vegans. All T-shirts and the standard jeans do not contain any animal-derived materials. The brand even switched genuine leather in favor of vegan leather for its woven elastic belt. That’s why we gave Asket one eco point for this category.

Asket is partnering exclusively with ethical mills and manufacturers and at the end of the garment's life, it is providing solutions, like recycling, reviving or reusing. The brand provides information about every factory and facility your clothes pass.

Other eco-friendly practices at Asket

Asket encourages us to learn more about our clothes because that’s the only way to make "educated" decisions. It prioritizes transparency, ensuring that every time you shop you have all the necessary information about the product you intend to buy. This includes garment origin, CO2 impact, detailed description of the materials, etc. 
By collecting and calculating the actual impact data, Asket helps you understand the impact of your choice and shop wisely. In the near future, this data will be shared on a digital receipt upon checkout so that every customer will be able to see the associated footprint of their purchase. 
Its slogan "consume less" is also supported by selling non-seasonal and timeless clothes that don’t need to be thrown away or replaced by new garments frequently. 
The brand has also made great progress in terms of packaging since it cut packaging-related CO2 emissions by 47%. It has replaced the box stickers with a recycled paper alternative and is still seeking alternatives to replace the garments’ hangtags.
