About Hulu

Who is Hulu?

Hulu is an American subscription streaming service. You can get up to 75+ channels on Hulu, as well as live TV, which includes sports, news, and events. On top of all of that, you can also get the entire streaming library, which they claim offers some of the latest and greatest shows. They also claim that their platform is like cable TV, but better, because you get choice and control over your TV time.

Do you have to pay for Hulu?

Yes, you have to subscribe and pay for a plan in order to access and watch anything on Hulu.

Hulu claims that its ad-supported plan starts at $7.99 a month (or $79.99 a year). This is their starting rate and their plans and prices can go up to $82.99 a month.

Here is a list of the ongoing plans at the moment:

  • Hulu: Our ad-supported plan costs just $7.99/month (or $79.99/year) and gives you access to our ad-supported streaming library.
  • Students: Get Hulu (ad-supported) for $1.99/month, if eligible. Additional terms apply.
  • Hulu (No Ads): For $14.99/month, you can watch most of those same shows and movies without the ad breaks. Hulu (No Ads) excludes a few shows that play with ads before and after the video

Hulu + Live TV plans

  • Hulu (With Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (With Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads)*: Sign up for only $69.99/month starting December 8, 2022. You’ll have on-demand ad-supported content and live streams from your favorite sports, entertainment, and news channels — plus all the additional content on the Disney+ app and ESPN app.**
  • Hulu (With Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (No Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads)*: Subscribers of this plan pay $69.99/month and get ad-supported content on Hulu and ESPN+, but content without ads on Disney+. Please note that this plan will no longer be available to purchase or switch into after December 8, 2022 — existing subscribers will be able to keep their plan but will see the price change to $74.99/month, effective on that date.
  • Hulu (No Ads) + Live TV, Disney+ (No Ads), and ESPN+ (With Ads)*: For $75.99/month, you can stream almost all videos from our streaming library without ads, and you can take advantage of everything our Live TV plan has to offer — plus additional content from Disney+ (No Ads) and ESPN+ (With Ads). Please note that the price of this plan will increase to $82.99/month on December 8, 2022.

What is the difference between Netflix and Hulu?

According to, Hulu is best if you are looking for Newer Content, whereas Netflix is better if you want access to loads of content.

Hulu has an advantage in it provides you with access to recently-aired TV shows, and they also have different bundles which include ESPN+ and Disney+. However, one disadvantage they face is that their cheapest plan includes ads, which Netflix does not do.

Netflix on the other hand has double the content that Hulu does and they also provide three different plans, non of which include ads. However, when we look at the price, we can say that they are one of the priciest on-demand services.

Overall, gave Hulu 3.75 stars, whereas Netflix received 4.5 stars.

If you are looking into signing up for a streaming platform, I think it's best to do your research and find a service that will fulfill your needs when it comes to entertainment.
